Supporting teenagers on their path to adulthood means addressing more than academic success. At Myittar Yaung Chi, preparing young people for life also includes open and responsible sex education.
To provide professional guidance, the orphanage invited two experienced experts: Ms. Thet Thet Khaing from a local NGO specializing in youth education, and Dr. Than Myint from Stiftung Life’s “Swimming Doctors” project. In October, they conducted dedicated sessions for the teenagers — with separate discussions for girls and boys to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
The sessions covered essential topics such as personal hygiene, relationships, and contraception. As more teenagers gain access to the internet and social media, the experts also addressed digital risks and online safety.
The atmosphere during the sessions was open and relaxed. Sitting together in circles on the floor helped create a sense of trust, encouraging the teenagers to ask questions freely and speak honestly. Both girls and boys actively engaged in the discussions, showing curiosity and maturity.
By offering structured and age-appropriate education, Myittar Yaung Chi aims to ensure that its teenagers grow into confident and responsible adults — equipped not only with knowledge but also with the confidence to make safe decisions about their future.
