Life at Myittar Yaung Chi is enriched by a vibrant mix of cultural traditions, giving the children a strong connection to both local heritage and global celebrations.
One meaningful cultural event is the Thadingyut Festival, also known as the Lighting Festival. Celebrated on the full moon of the Burmese lunar month of Thadingyut, it is one of Myanmar’s most important festivals after Thingyan. During this time, young people show respect to elders through a tradition known as Gadaw — offering small gifts and asking forgiveness for any past mistakes. This ritual strengthens bonds between generations and reflects the deep cultural values of gratitude and reconciliation.
The children also enjoy exploring traditions beyond Myanmar. Although the country is predominantly Buddhist, they enthusiastically take part in Christmas celebrations. Wearing Santa hats, singing festive songs, and creating artwork, they embrace the spirit of the holiday with curiosity and joy.
These celebrations help the children appreciate cultural diversity while staying rooted in their own traditions.
