The Burmese New Year, known as Thingyan, recently came to an end — bringing water, celebration, and much-needed cooling during an intense heatwave across Myanmar.

Often referred to as the Water Festival, Thingyan is the most important celebration of the year. Traditionally marked by splashing water to symbolize renewal and purification, the festival is both joyful and deeply rooted in cultural and spiritual meaning.

This year’s celebrations took place under unusually high temperatures, making the water-themed traditions even more meaningful. Despite the broader challenges facing the country, Thingyan continues to offer moments of relief, togetherness, and cultural continuity for communities across Myanmar.

At Myittar Yaung Chi, the festival remains an important opportunity for the children to connect with their cultural roots and celebrate traditions that bring joy even in difficult times.
